TUSCANY

Tuscany is a region of timeless beauty and a year-round destination!

The winter season sees less visitors, making fresco-gazing and museum-visiting easier, while spring and autumn are lovely times for exploring the countryside. Its picturesque landscapes of rolling hills, dotted with olive groves and poppy fields are crowned by charming medieval hilltop towns. The Chianti is a surprisingly wild part of Tuscany, with densely wooded hills is also home to prosperous wine towns like Radda, Castellina and Greve, and to postcard-perfect smaller villages. The fascinating walled town of San Gimignano, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990, is famous for its splendid medieval architecture and for the local “Vernaccia di San Gimignano”. The Val D'Orcia, with its wide-open vistas and cypress trees, is bordered by the hill towns of Montalcino, famous for “Brunello” wine, Montepulciano and the fortified village of Pienza, a showcase of magnificent architecture.

Tuscany boasts also a collection of handsome art-filled, historic cities from Florence to Siena, Arezzo, Lucca and Pisa. Siena, a gloriously preserved medieval town, enclosed by ancient walls with a dazzling Gothic Cathedral, Pisa, with its majestic Cathedral flanked by the famous Leaning Tower, and Lucca with its handsome fortifications, pretty squares and Romanesque churches, are all worth a visit. The chic seaside resort of Forte dei Marmi  known as the Tuscan Riviera has long been the summer destination for the rich and noble families from Florence and northern Italy. The promenade is a great place for an evening walk and people-watching.
